“Her landscape work is masterful and deeply sensitive."
- Arts Fairfax, 2023. “ . . . landscapes are a genre explored by many artists, so if you’re going to stand out, you have to do it really well – and these are landscapes on the highest level.”
* Jurors' comments upon acceptance of Ms. Gillmann's proposal for Vision at Water's Edge, solo exhibition Originally from Maine, award-winning artist, Kathleen Best Gillmann today lives and works in Roanoke County, having recently relocated from Burke, Virginia. Growing up in a state known for its natural beauty, she developed a profound enjoyment of the outdoors and a respect for unspoiled natural places which she celebrates in her paintings and drawings.
Her goal is to inspire her audience to discover - or rediscover - wonder in the natural world. She finds inspiration for her work from frequent time spent outdoors, seasonal gardening, travel, from her youth spent in New England, and past involvement (2010-2024) at the Workhouse Arts Center located in northern Virginia. In late 2024, she moved to southwest Virginia bringing her studio practice and business, Very Best Fine Art. |
Over the years, her work has accumulated numerous awards. Ms. Gillmann's work is held in many private collections in the mid-Atlantic region and some of it has even found its way north to Maine. Of particular note, she feels honored that several of her pastels and a drawing are owned by the U.S. State Department, held in the prestigious Art Bank collection.
