Best Gillmann Most of the media I work in today I had exposure to in high school - including pastels. The media has changed dramatically since that time with the advent of sanded paper making it easier to completely cover the working surface creating a "pastel painting." I enjoy working in pastel because it is so versatile - sometimes I work on sanded paper but more frequently on water color paper, quality drawing paper, or even old fashioned pastel paper! All of the works you see here were completed since 2006 or more recently. The earliest one in this group, The Trees of the Field Shall Clap their Hands, (2006) won First Place from juror Trudy Van Dyke in the Springfield Art Guild's autumn show that year. Most of these have juried into other shows. Of particular note, Hiker's Delight 2 was juried in to Maryland Pastel Society's "Shades of Pastel 2009" juried by Richard McKinley.
